DuPont’s Stéphane Bazzana will discuss how his firm, recently separated from DowDuPont, applies the expertise of its diverse research staff to help customers today by delivering innovations essential now to markets including electronics, transportation, construction, water, health and wellness, food, and worker safety. The company’s advancements include groundbreaking products such as Kevlar fibers known for their strength and durability and Tyvek high-density polyethylene protective film used in house wrap and protective clothing. The firm’s innovation strategy is focused on fulfilling the indispensable needs of customers and the planet we all live on. By marrying DuPont’s scientific capabilities with the challenges outlined in the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, DuPont is formulating innovations vital to the production of alternative energy, improved electronic devices, and health enhancing solutions that improve the well-being of people and their communities.

In addition, a selection of Société Scholarship Students will give presentations about their work on topics covering coatings, microfluidics, and catalysis.

About our Speaker:
Dr. Stéphane Bazzana is the Global Director of Innovation for the DuPont Safety & Construction business, a $5.5 billion global leader providing highly engineered solutions to meet life’s essential needs for water, shelter and safety across a variety of end markets. In this role, Dr. Bazzana is responsible for the development of entrepreneurial teams to explore new markets and provide rapid solutions to customer problems. He is a member of the DuPont Technology Directors Network.

Born in France, Dr. Bazzana graduated with a B.S. in Physical Chemistry and received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston MA.

Dr. Bazzana worked with NASA under the direction of Dr. AL Sacco Jr. in conjunction with his Ph.D. research to synthesize carbon nanotubes in low temperature chemical vapor deposition environment.  He began his career with DuPont in 2004 as a research engineer in the DuPont Central Research and Development Department.

In 2007, he joined DuPont Industrial Biosciences as a process development engineer working with technology and business teams to develop cellulosic biofuels and in 2010 he was appointed Research Manager, leading DuPont Central Research & Development Biofuels Bioprocess Group and worked closely with the Butamax™ LLC joint venture.
During this time, he was elected to serve on the Industrial Board of Northeastern University Chemical Engineering Department.

In 2013, he relocated to Canada and became the Director of R&D for DuPont Canada and led the process development organization for DuPont Kingston Technology Centre and initiated collaboration between universities and government research organizations.

In 2015, Dr. Bazzana became the Global Technology Manager for the DuPont Nylon Enterprise and polyester business driving innovation across a large business while balancing short-term revenue with longer-term platform developments.
In 2016, Dr. Bazzana joined Nike as the sustainable material director and Nike Grind business leader.  He re-joined DuPont in 2018 in his current role.

Dr. Bazzana enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and playing volleyball. Lately he started roasting his own coffee beans appreciating the engineering and the chemistry behind the traditional art and know-how.
